Another alert...
This time the British police caught 20+ potential terrorists who were apparently plotting to create bombs on-board about 10 planes headed from the UK to the US. Now you can't take carry-on in the UK, and can't take any liquids or gels past security in the US. I have been reading a book about the "War on Terror" (Suskind, One Percent Doctrine) and just yesterday read about liquid-based bombs that the CIA had discovered being made a couple of years ago in Pakistan.
But don't worry - nothing bad has happened. Just longer security lines at airports today; and CNN has refocused its coverage back to domestic issues (as opposed to the Middle East). They have even flown their key anchors and correspondents from Israel to London for tonight's prime-time coverage (e.g., Anderson Cooper live from London as opposed to Haifa).

... and as far as I am aware, the restrictions on had luggage in/out of the UK will continue for a while.
It's a major pain for short weekend trips where the only bag you require is carry on luggage. AND, airline companies such as RyanAir which charge you to put luggage below.
My flatmates have gone to Berlin this weekend, so I will hear what they say about going through the Airports.
